A one-stop black metallic video playing jukebox that lets you view more videos during lunch break than are aired on MTV over the course of an entire month. Real simple (and smart) navigation lets you search video and TV content by subject or category in a single click, while the show news and extra content (also all in video format) is neatly tucked away. Luaka Bop

This site for the 10 year old record label (started by David Byrne of Talking Heads fame) began by compiling and promoting native Brazilian "pop" music. Luaka is a paradise of textured wonders, effusing and busting with the vibrant colors and feelings of the South American and Spanish musical peoples. The range of Spanish flavors live on through more musical additions, and through the wonderfully textured and uninhibited design presented in the site. The iconography is excellent, and the variety of designs, for instance, in the "All Our Disks" area, is stupendous. The site deftly illustrates the richness of the label and the music.... More

There are several things to like about this music site for composer & sound designer, Philippe Gully. The site is all about simplicity and navigation, and the interface responds to Philippe Gully's three usage requirements: 1) As few clicks as possible. 2) No classic sound player, and 3) it tracks the listening time on each song of the album. By the way, did you notice he doesn't even hit you with music until you click something? (Kudos!) An impressive interactive design concept supported by excellent functionality: this is one of the first 4.0 generation sites that really delivers - concept, visuals, sound, interactivity + variety. The website design plays on the phrase "you can't see the forest for the trees." Individual artists were each commissioned to do an interactive interpretation of a particular track for the Dreamworks album without knowing what the other participants were doing, or how it would all come together. The result is a forest of trees testifying to the inspiration of the visionary soundscapes in Forest for the Trees.... More
