Critical MassCritical Mass's full-bleed, animated portfolio captures the full-on sizzle of professional portfolio site. Released in early 2008, this site is still making waves in agency circles, and will probably be one of the more emulated portfolio designs before the end of the year... Of course, it helps to have an established list of high-end clients, but it's amazing how far a cool redesign with large scale photos, and some magic Flash pixie dust, can go towards making a firm look hip and desirable (Hint: check out the previous portfolio design). Perhaps something even greater than that... but before you leap to conclusions, check out the work inside. It may not appear very flashy on the outside (at first), but don't be fooled by their minimalist approach. Each project has its own sophisticated touch that takes it further away from normal, into that realm of the 'OK', and perhaps even one day, 'Pretty Good'.... More

Big Spaceship

Big SpaceshipRemember the days when films just had posters and maybe a trailer or two? Big Spaceship was one of the firms to change that. These guys are behind the websites of many of the major Hollywood films you've seen recently. We love visiting websites for movies—especially when the website is better than the movie itself. (Catwoman, we're looking your way.) But that's not where the Big Spaceship stops. They've also produced cutting edge Flash sites for Nike and Coca-Cola... well, you ask; "who hasn't?" That's true... but at least they're not one-trick-Hollywood-ponys.... More

Opus:CreativeOpus's services have multiplied over the years since they've been listed here... sure, this full service design studio has some great creative graphics... but it doesn't end there. Started by three techno-savvy guys in Portland, Oregon, Opus:Creative has handled campaigns for the likes of Flowerbud, Nike, and Outrigger/OHANA Hotels. And now they offer everything from branding to hosting, application design to e-commerce. It's "work that works." And continues to grow.... More

Stay Honest

Stay HonestHonestly, Honest is at the forefront of the new archetype in advertising and design, blending the subversive and the ideal solution all in one. And the easy going folks at Honest cover it all. They've got their print ads and web sites, which are all fine and good, but what is really exciting are their short films and commercials, commissioned by the likes of Diesel, Nike, the band The Gorillaz, and more. What happens when graphic design sensibilities are transposed into short works of cinema? Try downloading a few, and we think you'll agree that the results are awesome. Stay true to Honest, and you'll be surprised with the outcome.... More

Orange32

Orange32Fuse a company website with a bold gothic typeface, animated Flash and rock 'n' roll music, and suddenly you're talking attitude and a hip online presence. But that's not all, as Orange32 completes some very dynamic work for clients ranging from upscale corporate to edgy product ads. Their strengths lie in print, identity and illustration, but their dynamic attitude is filtering into their Flash-based web projects with much success. Their creative juices are brimming, and the work to come should be interesting to watch (and hear).... More

Monsoon

MonsoonMonsoon impresses us mightily. Want to know why? They don't just list their clients and show portfolios of their work. They list their clients, describe the specific challenge each of them offered, explain how they dealt with the challenge, and then reveal the result. So a visit to their site will tell you how they helped Wu Tang Clan's last album go triple platinum. And also how they made the Urban Outfitters online store turn a profit in record time. It's downright inspiring to read how productive they are. We'd like to share our challenges with them any day of any week.... More

ZAAZ

ZAAZZAAZ has a lot of (dare we say it) pizaaz. They provide platform-based web solutions that range from consumer brands to interfaces for all sorts of business utilities. Where they really shine is in their custom-made interfaces for everything from traffic analysis to Washington Mutual Bank. Where would we all be without ZAAZ? Using boring, old-fashioned ATMs, that's where.... More

Ignited Minds

This portfolio storefront is actually full of advertising clichés - both visual and verbal – but the quality of work here makes it all a pleasure. The Ignited Minds group says they know their asses from their elbows, and we have to agree. The cyber chicks look lusty and dangerous, the electronics look sleek and dangerous and the men all look like baseball hall-of-famers and, uh, dangerous -– and all in a happy-go-lucky sort of way. Ignited Minds also choose to eschew words like “edgy” and “extreme.” Okay, now we really like these guys.... More

the barbarian group

the barbarian groupOkay, you have to admit that Burger King's Subservient Chicken website is a riot. You know the one—the psuedo live video feed of a guy in a chicken suit who will do anything you want? It's hilarious and brilliant (and got over one billion hits), which is why we are excited to learn that barbarian group was the firm behind it. Their entire modus operandi, while exceedingly professional, is to create unique and surprising online advertising. Visit their website. You'll find links to a host of large projects, and not just games... but Flash specialty marketing, hotsites, and online advertising... but also a whole slew of cool online games. Firstborn

firstbornFirstborn does really lovely, effective work that isn't limited to websites—they reach all the way to the relatively antique advertising method known as printing brochures. You know, the kind of thing that uses paper? Check out their website for more info on who they are, what they do, why you'd want to work with them, etc. You'll join an impressive, eclectic bunch: Bacardi, Calvin Klein, Madonna, Columbia University. BBQ Box

In a world full of corporate branding and identity, here's an guy walking the walk just for the heck of it. Eric Cheung (aka BBQ Wing) is a graphic designer, and he's created this site because. . . hey, he wanted to. It's an expression of thoughts and ideas, all in some pretty awesome Flash animations. Think "sharing," not "selling." The site is populated with little animated alter egos of the artist to guide you around. We feel good about this.... More

Headed by Jim Coudal, these guys have got it going on. They have a relaxed, MoveableType-based website that promotes creativity over commerce.
