Here's a Finnish firm that truly lets their work do the talking. Their web site copy is basically limited to one phrase: "We are a digital agency" and one full-screen showreel. Of course, when you watch the showreel, the post-production work is so in your face that it makes their work appear more vivacious then a browser ever could... But it makes us think they come close! If catching our attention was the goal, they did it with flying colors, and then some. Cool stuff.... More

Although they do not specialize in web design, they had their friends (AllofUs.org) put together a truly magnificent minimal Flash portfolio that really puts the ideas and work first. Yes, the graphic design campaigns inside are excellent, yet its even easier to appreciate because the site makes you read (and think) a little first, instead of just quick-clicking through everything. Jody Barton is one of those special characters in design. Born and raised in the British Isles and educated in London at The Royal College of Arts, his typographic art has a certain painful honesty to it... which we like to call 'un-irony'. When most trendy designers are doing the "cool" irreverant thing—Jody is actually feeling the pain and not faking the expression. This un-ironic attitude – arrived at by choice, but also a cultivated perspective born from frustration – is expressed in worded and iconographic detail on skateboards, surfboards, vinyl cuts of his work, stickers, T-shirts, books, pamphlets, hand-assembled custom bicycles, tattoos on his own body, and basically anything he can put pen or ink to. Perhaps you are familiar with the analogy that the best barber in town has the worst haircut? Well, such is the case with Andersen M Studio, an oustanding independent creative studio with a less than spectacular website. It was formed by graphic designer, photographer and musician Martin Andersen (MA, RCA) in 2001, and because the site itself isn't Flashy or extremely well kept, it tells us something about the artists behind the work... For one, that they are too busy art directing cd sleeves, cranking out great print work, and making original music to be bothered with the ins and outs of HTML, CSS, and all the rest. Telegramme is a pretty cool little design and illustration partnership specialising in silk screen printing of posters and patterns. Initially a collaboration working via the postal service, Telegramme snowballed in to a fully fuctional studio thanks to a mutual love of music, art and the receiving of post. We really liked their gritty mixed up illustration style that balances old vintage images with new computer design techniques - which coalesces nicely in their afore-mentioned poster and pattern designs. Trevor Jackson is a London based creative force who began a convoluted career in music and the arts by designing record sleeves. He currently works in graphic design, art direction, moving image, music writing, remixing, installations and performance arts.
