Konst & Teknik is a sharp print studio based in Stockholm, Sweden, and founded by design duo Mattias Jakobsson and Peter Ström. The site is quite minimal, but there's a bunch of functionality behind the scenes of this "blank" canvas. Once you begin to understand the nav system, you're going to be impressed by the clean and innovative design work. You can tell this duo really considers the art of design and addresses the conceptual ideas for each project... and as a result, the output is a beautiful marriage of design, typography and smart thinking – pleasantly presented in this minimal web portfolio.... GUAPO is a slick-looking South American portfolio that is designed in a mysterious, minimal black background—it's one of those designs that ultimately aims to make the "firm" appear much larger than it actually is. While the site looks good on the surface, digging inside reveals a rather thin spread of projects (obviously the work of a single designer). However, all is not lost, as the recent futuristic typography, identity and logo design work inside this portfolio is quite strong and well worth checking out. It's all about the potential here.... While we can usually tell a lot about a firm or portfolio just by its name (and this one is unfortunate), we can't really gauge a designers passion until we see his work. Well, this portfolio (certainly built for a large screen) showcases a number of fun and exciting logo and Flash websites built for Italian-based businesses and people. What we enjoyed was the ease of naviagtion of the portfolio, and the obvious enjoyment this designer gets out of doing this kind of work. 'Nuff said.... More
A unique little digital hide-away for a digitally-minded young designer, Microbot is its own little living and breathing world immersed in Flash experimentation, animation, 3D and visually impactful digital paintings (eye-candy). We liked this portfolio site because it reminds us of the early "cyber" days of the internet, when young designers were trying to add everything and the kitchen sink into their personal pages. And as a homage to both graffiti, doodling and digital abstraction, we quite enjoyed this little hidden gem.... More
It's not often that we get to feature a talented Chinese-based artist and designer such as Zhiwei Bai. Born in 1981, Zhiwei is a typographic designer whose beautifully balanced work exhibits a timeless quality—it features a collage and shape-inspired minimal style, with blocky typography that at once seems childish, yet modern. In a sense, it is a youthful mix of Swiss bauhaus design and Chinese calligraphy. Recently two of his works won the merit of 53rd Annual Type Directors Club (New York) and they will be published in Typography 28 and exhibited in six traveling shows, internationally. As a member of The Art Directors Club of New York and Shenzhen Graphic Design Association – has won a number of local and international awards in his professional field, such as The Art Directors Club of New York Awards (NYADC). Noticing a trend? We like to call it a "digitalthread". Yes, this is the fifth portfolio we posted today with the same background; black with diagonal grey stripes. But we're not hating on this at all—sure it's not terribly original, but it works. Especially if you have great work inside, as this designer does – it makes it stand out in a dark, sexy and digital way. Anova, the online home of one-man multimedia machine Jesper Bentzen - unlike any other site we've recently viewed, grabs us with a single explosive introduction that showcases a gambit of technical and design abilities. Thus, the mood is set for viewing the portfolio of this young, modern 'renaissance' designer, whose work covers everything from post production to 3D modeling, identity design to web games, and photography to physical art installations. It's very impressive, especially considering the numerous bells and whistles this Flash expert has integrated into his portfolio interface and navigation... it certainly seems like there's nothing in the digital or design realm outside of Jespers' technical reach or artistic grasp. Freshlysqueezed is the very crisp and clean personal portfolio of interactive designer, Guy Moorhouse... who - at this posting - is to begin working fulltime at Airside, a London-based interactive agency. Since this is the first incarnation of his portfolio, we were very impressed with several things: It was clean, it used big type that was easy to read, it had really simple navigation, and it had little Flash subtleties (yes, sounds like an oxymoron) that made us realize this Guy thinks about usability for the medium. Because this virtual cork-board is truly the complete portfolio experience. It comes with large tear-off sample sheets and built-in Flash transitions that work seamlessly to create a great window into an immersive portfolio that we haven't seen produced quite as well anywhere else. In our opinion, all portfolio websites should look like this. Not that they should all look the same... Heavens, no! Just that they should all be fairly clean and simple, load quickly, and have interfaces that are instantaneously understood. Additionally, we should know immediately by looking at the outer wrapper, that the inner CSS and HTML code beneath is just as beautiful as the shell. Like many designers from Brazil, the design work in this personal portfolio of Bruno Costa has a very strong visual element, with bold color choices and clean type implementations. We really liked the Flash built right-hand nav that simply allows you to 'mouse-scroll' through projects rather than the standard 'click-scroll'. And similar to other young emerging designers, the interactive and design work is modern feeling, with a little bit of a trendy lean (skulls, Rorschach-style blots and popular type), but we love it. Redbloc is a Communist-era-themed web site for a small interactive studio that produces some very nice original work. The site introduces you to some very ironically cute communist characters and illustrations, framed by detailed 'kartuschki' - those delicate Eastern European floral patterns. However, Redblock is actually based in Singapore, and illustrations aside, specializes in creating very beautiful solutions for web and print design, as found in their portfolio area. Technically, Unkempt is the art direction, design and internet division of AllYourPrey UK, which specializes in creative photography. What that simply means is that Unkempt - essentially one man - builds all the online sites for the photo projects of Prey, and is cheifly responsible for illustrating smooshy, smokey, and occasionally flowery graphics onto the art photos that Prey directs. Together, the trio of designers (from both firms) join to make moody, yet beautiful ephemeral creations and technically beautiful web sites that evoke a sultry air of sex and fashion. Hello indeed. And what a welcome! Hello Hikimori is a tight-knit French design studio focusing on "global new media design". As you might expect, this means mostly web, print and motion design, and includes everything from a luxury cosmetics site to designer t-shirts. For a two person studio, HKI pumps out some really amazing print work. But what really struck us is the inspiring Flash-based design of their portfolio. The site establishes a new paradigm for interaction by mimicking a browser, with a right scroller, yet throws in some really sexy details. It's really fun to play with, very sticky, and we predict that this type of design will be copied by many other companies in the future. Truly novel thinking and interaction that sets the bar higher for all portfolio websites to come.... More

Sure it's trendy, and nothing you haven't really seen before... or is it? Clearly, Phillipe's strength lies in designing identities, logos, and collateral for his clients... And you could even say his forte is "the boss", meaning the embossing feature found in many of his business cards.
