Very polished feminine shiloettes and flat objects with a Japanese stylization define some of the work, although a light dusting of small details gives the compositions a textural richnes and visual appeal. In this new online 'folio, this Aussie art child shows us more than one style—ranging from cartoonish kids to saucy sex bombs with haunting dark, mysterious eyes. Appropriately, these 20 pages of illustrations are all presented on the side of an illustrated milk carton—which in the U.S.A. had at one time been a space reserved for showing pictures of missing children.... Jody Barton is one of those special characters in design. Born and raised in the British Isles and educated in London at The Royal College of Arts, his typographic art has a certain painful honesty to it... which we like to call 'un-irony'. When most trendy designers are doing the "cool" irreverant thing—Jody is actually feeling the pain and not faking the expression. This un-ironic attitude – arrived at by choice, but also a cultivated perspective born from frustration – is expressed in worded and iconographic detail on skateboards, surfboards, vinyl cuts of his work, stickers, T-shirts, books, pamphlets, hand-assembled custom bicycles, tattoos on his own body, and basically anything he can put pen or ink to. A very beautiful wallpaper, textile and pattern design portfolio of Swedish artist and print-maker Hanna Werning. We loved the clean asymmetrical simplicity of the website which betrays none of the complex rich floral patterns and prints created within—which makes the discovery of each project a wonderful surprise. Her work also includes installations and exhibits beyond the print-making realm, and there certainly are some gems in here – like the Deer Mirror. Simply beautiful. Never gross... but very engrossing.... More
