Piloto Cine TV

Piloto Cine TVPiloto are obviously the rockstars of the motion design industry in Brazil and they have a spanking new portfolio site to prove it! These specialists create interstitial ads for the likes of MTV and Nickelodeon that are mostly visual, with rich illustrations and video clips that use very few words. Developed by GRAFIKONSTRUCT (another Brazilian firm specializing in web and Flash) the site exemplifies this visual nature and blends nicely with their existing style. On the one hand, we wanted this site to be a webdesign pick, but they fit very nicely under designcompanies. Enjoy the eye candy, kids!... Read more

dixonbaxi

dixonbaxiIt's always a bit of a shame when an über talented design firm has a live website that does little justice to their work. But sometimes it's just a fact that they crank out so much outstanding work in their other mediums, they have zero free time to spend on their web presence and all they can do is post jpegs of their projects! Such is the case at dixonbaxi, a London based design and directing team formed by two award winning directors. If you've ever turned on a TV, you've seen their work, which has included such wonders as "helping MTV find its balls again" to the onscreen graphics of Formula 1 racing sports. Truly, not enough can be said about the work of this duo, and perhaps enough has already been said. Check out the work, and let the images do the talking.... Read more

B-Reel

B-ReelB-Reel is a Swedish full motion and interactive design company that puts the activity in creativity. As implied by their name, they do motion design, commercials and on-air promos, but they also have been in the business of crafting cutting-edge web experiences since 1999. Much of their work is for home-based Swedish clients, but rest assured, even if you don't know the language or the clients, it all shines with top-notch multimedia interactivity.... Read more

We are A2/17

Hmmm... A2/17. Not exactly the most descriptive name (sounds more like my flight and gate number). So, where to take off and describe this collective of 4 German multimedia artists? Well, they are composed of 4 different types of directors, animators, stop-motion, 2D and 3D artists. So, any visit to A2/17 means you have to visit the sites of: Hendrik Niefeld (concept, direction and animation), Egmont Mayer (3D stop motion artist), Frederik Ring (direction, animation and illustration), and Stefan Schomerus. They are directors. They are designers. They are animators. They are 3D. They are 2D. They are stop motion. Now we understand! They are A2/17... flight boarding now.... Read more

Studio Dialog

Studio DialogThe Studio Dialog website is a great showcase of motion and design work using dynamic movement, yet tempered by practical interaction. Representing their portfolio in this format reflects a passion for design and embodies the multidisciplinary frame of mind of this studio. We really liked was the ease of navigation, and the full-screen "drawing board" style presentations of the projects. Very professional display that exudes firm control over their projects and how they present them online. Quite impressive, and dynamic motion work overall.... Read more

Friend of a Friend

Friend of a Friend Down-right dirty, but right to the point, this is a portfolio site that takes a back-yard approach. Wheel in the pick-up truck of links on this single page wonder, and you'll basically get direct project URLs, a bunch of motion videos, shorts, and a reel of their work. Simple and sans information, this dusty minimal approach gets high marks for originality, verve, and kudos for just not giving a damn (but underneath it all, showing they really do). Brilliant.... Milky Elephant

Milky ElephantMilky Elephant is a professional collective of three unique design artists based in New York. This collective consists of Karl Ackermann, Eun-Ha Paek and Mumbleboy (a.k.a. Kinya Hanada), who together make installations, games, illustrations, music videos, animated series, and artistically inspired designs. They work on an eclectic variety of funky projects spanning from toy design to viral interactive e-postcards that you've probably helped spread. Very quirky, often miniture and cute, it seems like they have a niche around being silly and youthful, which also shows in the variety of mediums they like to craft their projects (everything from coin purses to TV interstitials). Also check out The Milky Shop, the cool pink retro nav (that we really like) and the sites of the three design artists.... Read more

Modernista!

Founded in 2000, Modernista! is an accomplished ad agency that focuses on what they call "the big ideas". What is a big idea? Well, you may have seen their H3 Hummer ads running on a certain small sports show called the Superbowl, or perhaps on the streets of NYC in the form of oversized black and white outdoor posters for Napster. Eitherway, one can tell from their successful projects that Modernista! injects a bit of art into each of their endeavours... Therefore contrary to common advertising ideas, they look beyond the staus quo to help change your mind, intead of just trying to please it. M! is a truly progressive brand and ad agency, who also happen to update their online presence each year. One to watch.... Read more

Tavo Ponce

Hailing "hola" from Spain, Tavo Ponce is a superb motion graphics and print designer... and while his portfolio site is just a simple, white, one page scroller - as is common among many motion designers - pretty much all of the projects are rich, unique, colorful and very beautiful to behold. The contrast is quite striking, and the work, from print, to motion, to web spans several different styles - from street/urban to minimal - and each are of top notch quality and masterfully refined. The Rock Collection

The Rock CollectionYou know you're a talented graphic designer when you create a 3-page website, plaster in a bunch of huge jpeg samples of your work, and don't even bother to put in a back button. It's like... who needs a website with navigation when the work speaks for itself... and your browser has a 'back' button embedded in it anyway? Well, this is one of those special occasions where it truly doesn't matter, because in the personal portfolio of Philippe Richardson, the illustration work and stills of broadcast commercials (some with Quicktime movies) will blow you away, and you won't even notice you're sitting at your desk anymore, much less which direction you want to navigate (besides simply scrolling up and down... over and over and over again).... This self-proclaimed portfolio of "trendy stuff" shows us that Andrew has a solid understanding of the design game and knows where and how to kiss some serious butt. Yes... it's all in the irreverance, isn't it? As long as it sells, kids... as long as it sells! And that's why this great motion graphics designer with a BFA in design is looking for full time work? studio aka

studio akaConstruction paper cutouts and ‘primitive’ pen marks run rampant at the studio aka site. Some nice illustrations, but after perusing the sample pages, we have to say, um, "been there, done that." Sure, they've won awards, but if the London based production company doesn’t inject a little variety (and reach out from the UK), their days may be numbered. That being said, they can probably use the ‘singular style’ style for identity recognition, aka "branding."... Read more

Trollback and Company

Trollback and CompanyEmmy-winning title sequences, as well as some of the most effective print work we’ve seen, move through T + Co.’s very fine website. Conclave Obscurum

Conclave ObscurumPhotographic fantasmagoria at its finest. A prelude to a newly-redesigned website offers enough weird eye candy and interactive video vignettes to keep the most discerning surrealist smiling -– albeit in a twitchy, mentally-deranged sort of way. Simply put: these folks offer fine examples of twisted art. Charlie Company

Creating a brand imprint for a product is one thing, but for a TV show? That's like creating history, and we suppose that's what Charlie Company does, since they've created intros for such shows as...Celebrity Mole and Joe Schmoe. (Okay, so it's not exactly the opening credits to M*A*S*H.) In other words, nifty commercials that stick in your head.... Read more

Mashinima

MashinimaWe're not quite sure what Mashinma does; we can assume that Grupo Audiovisual means that they're a firm which works in multimedia; Illustracion means they do Illustration; Print and Web mean, well, print and web. So apparently Mashinima does everything, and to prove it they have a site with no English but plenty of eerie imagery -- stone cherubs that change colors, futuristic citsycapes, flowers that bloom out of nowhere. Sakebomb

Ridiculous, sexy, thrasher types with a soundtrack for everything (or so they would have you believe), Sakebomb had the honor of crafting the Jackass the Movie web site. Mean Girls, too.
