Critical Mass's full-bleed, animated portfolio captures the full-on sizzle of professional portfolio site. Released in early 2008, this site is still making waves in agency circles, and will probably be one of the more emulated portfolio designs before the end of the year... Of course, it helps to have an established list of high-end clients, but it's amazing how far a cool redesign with large scale photos, and some magic Flash pixie dust, can go towards making a firm look hip and desirable (Hint: check out the previous portfolio design). Built up of a three-man team, and located in Montreal Canada, studio DDI seems to be a synergistic team of talents whose work is clean, creative, colorful and captivating. Their work tends to bleed towards motion and video when possible, but their talents are rooted in incorporating all new media into cohesive, collaborative online concoctions. Quite nice!... More
A nice creative site for a Candian online media company whose work focuses on professional sites with high-end video integration. We quite liked their overall site which integrates brisk copy with a strong visual slideshow that unspools like a long reel of work. It's also worth checking out their company profile pages that have taken some commonplace ideas (such as the in-house web cam) to the next level. After all, they bill themselves as an "ideas studio", and this site definitely stands on its own as quite a creative accomplishment.... More
As one of the few large firms that survived the iBubble (as we like to call it), Organic has shown how adapting and changing into a full service digital media firm can be successful, given the right environment. Their work these days is focused largely on the auto industry with development of Jeep and Dodge sites coming from their strong relationship with DaimlerChrysler (as of this posting). Beside (perhaps "B-side"?) is the brave and colorful portfolio of Canadian Flash developer Bram Timmer. His portfolio has that cool dark digital feel, with nice gritty accents, and some bright popping colors. His client list of Canadian firms runs pretty deep, and his design work runs the gambit from clean, corporate white sophistication, to expressive color-rich abstract photo-illustration. And in the website for a branding design firm based in Toronto, Aegis shows us a passion for simplicity and sophistication with a minimal selection of colors and a clearly defined philosophy on design. This passion and depth of experience in design filters down to their work, which largely involves branding and the creation of communications for leading international clients. We really liked the large photo samples in their case-studies which is driven more by copy than by an array of images (the images form the background). It's a nice twist, and a fresh way to deliver the message of this strong branding design company.... More
